MERCURY-FREE HEARING AID BATTERIES
Beginning July, 2011 some states in the USA (Currently Maine ME, Connecticut CT, Rhode Island RI, and Louisiana LA) will require all hearing aid batteries to be completely free of mercury. Mercury is used as a trace element in button cell batteries, but this metal is considered a hazardous metal and is toxic to the environment when disposed into our garbage dumps. Manufacturers are gearing up for the transition and presently two brands are available in the mercury free version, Rayovac and Energizer. The hearing aid batteries in this category are in stock and available for purchase. Residents of these States should consider purchasing mercury free brands to comply with their local regulations. |
